A former Times journalist, Alastair is author of nine books on art, architecture and business practice, and a leading spokesman on heritage and conservation issues. From 2010-16 he was a Committee Member and Deputy Chair of the South East Committee of the Heritage Lottery Fund, distributing over £200million in Lottery funds throughout his tenure to over 400 projects in the region. He has founded a host of community organisations in the South East, advised on a series of major restoration projects and has held positions on a wide range of public and community interest bodies, including three years as co-chair of the Hastings & St.Leonards Local Strategic Partnership.
Kim Deshayes Appeal Director
Kim has 30 years’ experience of working in a senior fundraising, marketing and senior management capacity in the voluntary, education and leisure sectors. His assignments have included the successful fundraising for the £28m redevelopment of the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art (LAMDA), the £7m Olympic badminton centre in Redbridge, and the capital campaign for a new £8m performing arts centre at Eastbourne College, where he was Foundation & Appeal Director. His other roles have included inaugural CEO of the Rugby Union Premiership, MD of Newmarket Racecourse, and PR, Marketing & Sponsorship Manager for UK cricket.
Elsbeth Turnbull Campaigns and Events Manager
Elsbeth has worked in marketing, fundraising and events for over 20 years.
She has worked in UK, Hong Kong and Europe. She has a BA Archaeology and Anthropology and an MSc Tourism, Environment and Development.
She headed Southwark’s Tourism team for 6 years, writing their 5 year strategy, set up an award-winning tourist information centre on London’s Bankside, as well as launching the annual Frost Fair with over 100,000 visitors. For the last 6 years she has run Rye Bay Beach School at Rye Harbour. She is passionate about education and the environment, has three children and lives on the Nature Reserve.
