'Don't Fence Me In', Fay Godwin event at Kino Wednesday, 7th August 2019 7:30 PM - 10:30 AM
The internationally renowned photographer Fay Godwin (1935-2005) worked extensively from the Rye Bay landscape during the many years she lived at Pett Level. She was particularly interested in changes to the coast brought about by sea defences, which she recorded in detail during the 1980s, by earlier colonization of the area around Winchelsea Beach and the industrial activities in Rye Harbour.
Some of these images are published in her books Romney Marsh and The Edge of the Land, but many remain unseen in her archive in the British Library.
At this event, Charles Mapleston’s 2017 documentary Don’t Fence Me In will be screened, which brings together interviews with Fay and people who worked with her.
Fay’s archivist and biographer Geraldine Alexander will introduce the film and answer questions.
Fundraiser for the Discovery Centre - tickets £10 each.
