    More than 50 pledge to our 'Buy-a-Bird' Campaign

    Sussex Wildlife Trust is delighted to announce that the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre Appeal has raised over £25,000 from people who have pledged to our ‘Buy-a-Bird’ campaign. Everybody who gives £500 or more to our Appeal can ‘Buy-a-Bird’. This means that, if they wish it, their name will be included in a frieze of a flock of golden plover at the Discovery Centre, designed by local artist Bob Greenhalf.

    Sweet chestnut for Discovery Centre helps Lover's Knot Thrive in East Sussex

    We’re delighted to report that we now have the timber for the cladding of the new Discovery Centre. It’s sweet chestnut, sourced from managed, coppiced woodlands near Hastings. Maplehurst Wood is the only site in East Sussex where herb-paris Paris quadrifolia, or ‘true-lover’s knot’ grows. This is a flowering plant which has been in decline. Coppicing will help its recovery, because of the increase in light.
