Businesses in Rye are getting behind the fundraising for the new Discovery Centre planned for Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

Inspired by the potential it offers for the region, Pete Anderson, owner of Fletcher’s House Tearoom in Rye, organised a Christmas raffle in aid of the new Centre, raising a wonderful £572 in the process.

This donation takes the Centre’s public fundraising appeal a step closer to its £500,000 target.

Alastair Fairley, Chairman of the Appeal Board, says he’s delighted local businesses are coming on board: “The Discovery Centre is an important new development for everyone locally. The response from the public has been fantastic so far, helping us raise £150,000 towards our goal. There’s still a way to go, but we’d like to thank Fletcher’s House for their support. Let’s hope more businesses will follow their lead.”

The Discovery Centre project is a joint venture between Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.
